Hi, I'm a second generation experienced beekeeper from America. I moved to Tokyo in August. I'm experienced in European honeybee and I would like to partner with Japanese beekeepers in the Tokyo area. I'm experienced in Langstroth hives. I would like to learn native Japanese beekeeping in Pile box too.

I am very interested in the ecological differences between Japanese bees and western bees.

In Japan, giant hornets live.

Western bees can't cope with this wasp.

Japanese honeybee has the ability to defeat this hornet.

Western bees cannot be wilded in Japan.

However, Japanese honeybees lose their honey to western bees.

Please understand this strange triangular relationship and succeed in beekeeping in Japan

Also, I have a question. Is Japanese honeybee able to resist Varroa mite? This mite is a huge problem in the U.S. and Europe.

Yes !

Japanese bees can resist the ticks in your question Varroa.

However, Western bees have no resistance to this red spider mites.

But Japanese honeybee does not yet have resistance to mites inhabiting the trachea.
